Planning Labor Day Weekend Activities? Don’t Forget This…

Share

As you plan for Labor Day weekend, take time to celebrate with family and friends, but don’t disregard safety.  Each Labor Day weekend, thousands of people across our nation are arrested for drunk driving.  There are numerous traffic fatalities across the United States.  Astoundingly, 30% of all highway fatalities in our country occur Labor Day weekend.

In order to prevent these deaths, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) support campaigns designed to increase public awareness and stop drunk driving.

This year, the campaign titled “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” launches August 13 and will be in effect throughout the Labor Day weekend.  Research shows that these high visibility campaigns reduce fatalities.  And, police nationwide will be out in force to crack down on drunk driving.

Avoid being one of the fatalities.

The National Safety Council recommends the following to keep you alert and alive when you drive:

  •     Buckle up!  Make sure all passengers are using appropriate seatbelts and/or safety seats.
  •     Create a distraction-free zone, keeping GPS and cellphones away.
  •     Reduce the urge to speed by leaving early.
  •     Use your defensive driving skills and drive cautiously.
  •     Always designate someone as the sober driver or find another form of transportation.

Now, take a minute to forward this important information to remind someone NOT to drink and drive.
